Today I visited Rang Tantra, an exhibition of Paintings and Murals. It has been organized by the students of the Post Graduate department of SNDT Women’s University. The exhibition commemorates the 100 years of Women Education. Total 26 artists had displayed their creations, paintings and murals.

These all were of course at par kind of creations. But what I found to be bit unusual was the Glass Murals by Vrushali Vaidya. You can see one of her creations in the snap attached. The artist had carved out the figures of the fish using acid and the same cutout portion was used to give a 3D effect. 3D effect is of course a must for any mural. What appealed me more is the high quality crafting by using a dangerous material like acid. I was told that an acid is the only material which can erode the glass.

There was one more glass painting created by Vrushali using the same material that is acid. The painting was created in three layers, working backwards from the third layer to first layer. Every time the artist covered the required portion with paper and exposed the remaining portion to acid for erosion. It created a great effect.

I am definitely looking forward to see more and more such creations by Vrushali in the years to come.
